"Surrogates" Movie Review

This is a very unoriginal themed movie that is only watchable due to Bruce Willis action talents. While the idea behind Surrogates is quite interesting, it is far from original. The movie is set in the not to distant future, where around 98% of the world's population is living their lives through a surrogate, meaning a robot that looks just like you, that allows you to live your life without ever leaving your house. All you have to do is sit in a chair, in the safety of your own home in your PJ's, hooked up to your surrogate through a computer program and let them live your life for you. You are able to see and feel everything that you would feel if you were actually out in the world instead of your surrogate...and the best part is, you are in no danger of getting hurt or contracting any diseases. And, as an added bonus you can make your surrogate look however you choose allowing people to be exactly who they want to be.

So, needless to say, in surrogates, no one is ever quite who they seem. And, as for the leftover 2% of the population that has refused to live through a surrogate have bombarded themselves off in a surrogate free zone where they can live their lives as real people. They live in surroundings that look about as cleanly as a good old hippi commune. The non-surrogates are led by "The Prophet" who has promised them that change is coming, after discovering a new weapon that will not only eliminate a surrogate, but will also kill the person operating it.

While there are several interesting concepts and ideas brought to light in this movie, but in the end, the surrogates movie is more like a crime movie, rather than a science fiction phenomena. This movie is not filled with very many truly innovative ideas, and aside from the scattered bit of amusing scenes, surrogates is not a cinematic masterpiece.

The one glimpse of entertainment in this movie, is the acting quality that Bruce Willis brings to the table. He has a knack for turning great movies into instant classics (ex. Sixth Sense and Die Hard), and he has the ability to turn a mediocre film into a movie that is at least enjoyable to watch.

So while Surrogates is not 2009's best film of the year, it is somewhat enjoyable and if you get the chance, I would pass up on watching it.

"A Perfect Getaway" Review

A Perfect Getaway Movie Review:

I did not have high expectations for this movie, but it looked somewhat entertaining so I thought I would give it a shot. Well, it did not disappoint. While, it was not the "best" movie I have ever seen, it definitely kept me entertained and guessing at every turn of events. The story starts off simple to begin with, a newly married couple is on their honeymoon in Hawaii, during a time when news of brutal murders of other newlyweds who are being brutally murdered on the islands near by.

The suspects are described as a woman and a man, who are at large and most likely still in Hawaii. As the two main character honeymooners (played by Steve Zahn, and Milla Jovovich) hike through the beautiful Hawiian islands, they meet two unexpected strangers (Timothy Olyphant & Kiele Sanchez) that seem anything but trustworthy. Soon the foursome find themselves on a rollercoaster of suspense that will keep you guessing the whole movie long. And, believe me, you won't see what is coming.

So again I will say that I did not have very high hopes for "a perfect getaway", but I watched it because it was there and I needed entertaining. Was this the greatest film ever? definitely not, but nevertheless, to my surprise, I really did enjoy this thriller and I appreciate it for what it was. I was not expecting to have my mind blown, but I was delightfully surprised to be completely wrong about what was going to happen after every twist this movie takes. This movie definitely had a few good laughs, but also kept you on your toes with the suspenseful turns this story continues to take.

I will say that the movie developed it's unnerving and creepy vibe slowly, as the first 45 minutes of the movie was devoted to developing the characters. The story needed to give you the background before it could go from fluff to the nail biter it ended up being. I liked it, and in the end I felt like they upside down plot twists and the CRAZY ending were definitely worth the wait. Read more A Perfect Getaway Reviews.

Inglorious Bastards Review

Inglorious Bastards Review:

Alright, all I am going to say is that this is a pretty good movie. I think that I built it up too much, my expectations were too high and I was a bit disappointed. Here's the reasons why:

  • I wasn't expecting SO many subtitles. While, I should have thought about that before I watched the movie, seeing as it is set overseas, there were bound to be a few people speaking a different language. But, I didn't realize the ENTIRE movie would be filled with subtitles. And, not only were there subtitles, but they were on and off the screen so quickly I could barely keep up. And I can almost guarantee my 60 year old dad wasn't able to catch all the lightening speed subtitles on screen.

  • I was expecting A LOT of gore. The person that I had talked to told me that this movie was filled with gore. While, yes, there are a few parts that will make your stomach a little queasy, they should not be enough to deter you from watching this movie. It is so easy just to close your eyes on the really gross parts.

Alright, so all in all, I thought this movie was pretty good. It was great watching Brad Pitt and his jewish comrades, killing all those Nazis with such courage and pride.

      The Hangover is Hilarious!

      The Hangover Review:

This movie is SOOO funny right from the beginning until the very end. If you like Superbad and The 40 Year Old Virgin then you will LOVE this movie. The story begins with Steve, a soon to be ex-bachelor, who is going to Las Vegas for his bachelor party with his two best friends and mentally foggy brother in law.

The night begins nicely with a few toasts and shots of yeagar on the roof of the Ceasars Palace Hotel. Then we are zoomed forward to the morning after where we see the boys passed out on the floor of their hotel rooms, looking like they're in pretty bad shape. then, they slowly pull themselves off the floor and try and recount the events that occurred the night before. And, while they are trying to figure out what happened they realize that they have lost the groom and NONE of them can remember the last time they saw him!

The rest of the movie is spent watching these crazy guys try and reconstruct the insane events that occurred the night before in order to find the husband to be before he misses his own wedding!

This movie is crazy hilarious, it will give you the laugh attack you are looking for. If you like these types of crazy, vulgar, hilarious movies, then The Hangover movie is definitely worth checking out.

      District 9 Review:

All I have to say is don't do it. Do not buy this movie, don't rent this movie, don't watch this movie. It's awful! These aliens look retarded, the story doesn't make any sense. It's just plain weird.

If you like this movie I apologize, I only got through about 30 minutes of this movie before I turned it off, so maybe it got better...let me know. I would love to hear some other opinons about this one.

Well, I have just been to Amazon and there are all kinds of good district 9 reviews, read them and decide for yourself about this bizarro film. District 9 Reviews on Amazon.
